if you're lucky enough to have the day off, congratulations. mid-60s near chesapeake bay. and in montgomery, arlington, fairfax, prince george's, near 60. no tral problems weatherwise. in the 50s throughout much of virginia and the mountains this morning as the next few hours are under way here. but later in the morningt will warming up there. a chilly 48 in north central west virginia. over the last 12 hours we have had a few clouds coming through. had one showe go through north central maryland. it's long gone. it will feel like summertime. low to mid-80s. lots of sun. partly cloudy. highs, upper 70s. cooler weatheand rain likely on thursday. let's check trafc for columbus day. how is it looking, jerry? >> tom, looking pretty fine as we check out traffic along i-270 near 109 both northbound and southbound
moving along very nicely. no early hangups because of this federal holiday. appears to be just a tad lighter th normal. but not everybody gets the day off. drive from the west looks pretty good. the ramp from 234 business to go on to 66 west ramp closed for a while. that has cleared up. just a render, prince george's county remains closed. accident investigation continues. police tell us could be closed until 6:45 this morning. detours are set up. pat, eun. >> thank you jerry. if you do have to go to work today or if you plan on heading into the city for the columbus day holiday, you will have delays to deal with. two metro stations are closed for track work. several stations will have reduced throughout the day. mcpherson and ferrogate closed for track work.
no blue or orange lines at the metro center station. bus service will be provided to help commuters. riders can also expect delays on the red and yellow lines. expect 30 minutes to your trip if you are traveling between twinbrook and shadybrook. and huntington for landscaping repairs. add 30 minutes if you're traveling to those places. service will resume 5:00 tomorrow morning. and if you plan on using metrobus as an alternate you may need to find another way around town. 27 routes in maryland and virginia that usually operate weekdays will not be in service due to the columbus day holiday. other routes will be operating on enhanced saturday schedule. get used to the reduced bus service. changes will be in effect for veterans day, martin luther king jr. day and the day after
thksgiving, presidents' day. two men hit while they were trying to cross the street in maryland. it happened 3:00 sunday morning. police say adam hosinski and rory weichbrod were killed. roman got out of the car and checked on the victims. >> be careful. watch yourself. some of the cars don't even stop. you have to really run. they're coming across and zoom right on by. >> hosinski and weichbrod were the 10th and 11th people to be lled in pedestrian accidents this montgomery county this
year. so far all but one have been blamed on pedestrian erro a story we first brought you last week. a police academy instructor accused in a cheating scandal has been moved out of his teaching job and in a different unit. he was transferred to the sex offender registration unit. the teacher who denies any wrongdoing recorded perfect scores for students because he was too lazy to write down their grades. hilton says there are no signs that the students cheated. police in new york are still looking fora ninth suspect in what's being called some of the worst beatings in recent memory. as members of a gang savagely beat and tortured three gay men. eight members of the latin king goonies have been arrested and arraigned on gang assault, xual abuse and unlawful imprisonment, all as hate crimes. they raped and sodnlyized three gay men outside an
apartment building. it started after one gang member suspected one of their new recruits was gay. state and local leaders spoke out against the crime saying there no place in ts country for such hate. >> you are attacking our new york city societ you are attacking the right to be an american. >> think of what you are robbed off if you can't walk down the street without fear of the fact thathe way god made you is going to move someone else to violence. >> mayor michael bloomberg said anyone who is caught of hate crime will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. new york gubernatorial candidate paladino is under fire this morning after making some controversial comments regarding gay marriage. he met with jewish leaders and stressed his opposition to same-sex union.
